The MV Caledonian Isles was launched on the 25th of May 1993. The MV Caledonian Isles replaced the MV Isle of Arran, as the volume of traffic was getting too high for it. The MV Caledonian Isles was based on the design of the MV Isle of Mull, even though the new vessel is larger. In the summer of 2005 the MV Saturn assisted the MV Caledonian Isles with extra capacity, although since 2012 it has changed to the MV Isle of Arran giving extra sailings to Arran during the summer. Since the summer of 2013 the MV Isle of Arran has done four weekly sailings to Campbeltown as well as her usual service. From Autumn 2018 the new MV Glen Sannox will replace the MV Caledonian Isles and it will turn into the secondary Arran vessel, replacing the MV Isle of Arran.
